🏭 Chinese Enterprises to Invest in Building a Nickel Smelter and Steel Plant in Indonesia 🇮🇩
📢 In a significant move for the Indonesian economy, three major companies are planning to construct a national-level nickel smelter in the southwest of Papua, marking the first of its kind in Sorong. The consortium, comprising PT Huahe Management Indonesia, PTino Consultant Investment Indonesia, and PT Malamoi Olom Wonok, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at a hotel in Sorong Regency.
🔍 Following the MOU, groundbreaking work on an innovative nickel and steel smelter in the Sorong Regency Economic Special Zone (KEK) is set to begin. This collaboration is part of the broader development of the economic zone, which is currently not operating at its full potential, with the temporary use of the Petrosea port being one of the interim measures.
🤝 MPR RI Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Professional Party, Bambang Soesatyo, supports the establishment of this consortium. Robert Kardinal, a member of the DPR RI, also signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the parties involved.
📆 According to Bamsoet, speaking from Jakarta, the consortium is scheduled to break ground on the nickel smelter and steel manufacturing plant in June of this year, which will be the first in Papua. The consortium is tasked with the important mission of attracting both domestic and international investors to the Sorong Economic Special Zone.
💰 Two Chinese companies, Shengwei New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group, are planning to invest a staggering 75 trillion Indonesian rupiah in the Sorong Economic Special Zone. PT Shengwei New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. will build the nickel smelter, while Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group will construct the steel manufacturing plant.
🏞️ The construction of the nickel smelter requires an area of 1,000 hectares, with 500 hectares of land already prepared in the Sorong KEK area, along with other supporting facilities. The nickel smelter in the Sorong Economic Special Zone will utilize environmentally friendly, oxygen-enriched side-blow furnace nickel processing technology.
👷♂️ It is hoped that this nickel smelter and steel manufacturing plant will bring significant multiplier effects to the people of Papua. It is estimated that at least 3,000 workers will be needed to operate the smelter and steel manufacturing plant, with a priority given to the recruitment of indigenous Papuans.
